It is common for your PC to start running slow after a while. This is not to say it is normal though and there are some very good reasons why you should fix it urgently. It could be something as simple as junk left behind in the registry or something more sinister like spyware or malware hiding in your computer, or the registry could be corrupt.

Any of these can cause windows to fail to start or to slow down your computer.

There are several steps you can take to immediately speed up your computer, fix the registry and protect it from credit card information, personal information and passwords being hijacked.

Here is what you need to do in this order.

#1. Remove any programs that you do not use through windows add remove programs. Do not just delete the shortcuts on the desktop as many people do. The programs remain there and they will slow the computer down on start up and can slow it down during normal use, even if you are not using them.

#2. Ensure your antivirus software and firewall is not disabled. Make sure you have a virus scanner installed and do not turn it off. Some spyware and malware will try to disable your firewall and antivirus so they can steal your credit card information, passwords and other personal information and forward it without your knowledge.

#3. Fix and clean up your registry. The bigger it gets the slower your computer becomes. Run a free scan on it and remove any invalid entries for programs that are no longer installed. Scanning the registry will also reveal any spyware and malware hiding in there and any registry errors that can cause windows to fail to start.

Run a free registry scan, this will not just fix any registry problems, but will speed up your computer as well.
