Has Your Cell Phone Been Traced?
-
Most people if asked the question, “Has your cell phone been traced” would probably look at you with a blank stare. Most would have no idea what you meant by this question. Does it mean, “Is my mobile phone being tracked somehow?”
Does it mean, “Someone has tried to find my location by using my signal”? Someone might think that it meant that someone had tried to do a reverse search on their number, but I have a feeling very few people would think of that particular option. That is the option that this question would be referring too, but most people would not think of it, mainly because most people do not know what it is.
A cell phone trace refers to the act of looking up the owner’s name and address of a particular mobile telephone number online through what is often called a reverse search service. This type of a search is perfectly legal, can be done by anyone, not just law enforcement agencies, and can be performed anywhere that there is access to the Internet.
The lookup is performed by visiting any number of websites that provide people lookup services, entering the cell phone number in the proper search parameter field and clicking enter. That is truly all there is to it. This cell phone trace will return the name and address of the owner in a matter of seconds.
I’m sure the next question you have is what would anyone want or need to do this. To many people this seems like something that they would never use, but it is far more commonly needed than you think. Especially with caller id these days many people will know a phone number, but not know who is associated with that number.
If you get a call at night and you think it might be a telemarketer, now you can write down the number and then do a phone trace on it and know instantly if it is someone you wish to speak to the last time he calls. That is just one example, but there are literally hundreds more.
