The Restaurant Business
-
Starting a business is never easy, but people still do it every day. The restaurant business is statically proven to be one of the toughest businesses to keep going. There is a restaurant down the street that changes owners about every two years. One fails, someone with a lot of money and big dreams moves in, thinking their cooking and business strategy is better. When the money runs out, they move out and someone else moves in. This pattern has been going on for about twenty years now, that I know of. Who knows, maybe even longer.
The latest entrepreneur opened a sushi restaurant. Apparently there are many people in town that like sushi, since this is not the only restaurant of this kind. It opens for lunch, hoping to attract the local workers on their lunch breaks. Even though, within about a kilometer radius from this location there is a Harvey’s, a Wendy’s, a McDonald’s, a Quizno’s, a KFC, a Taco Bell, several pizza places and several small diners and restaurants.
It does seem to have a steady flow of clientele, even on weekdays, but how much sushi can you eat? Can you eat sushi five days a week? Personally, I cannot eat it at all. I will take a juicy Harvey’s burger any day. But this sushi place has been here for nearly three years now. Pretty much a record for this location. I’m glad. I wish them all the best. There is nothing worse than seeing someone sink their heart, soul and life savings into their dream only to have it all go down the drain.
One thing is for sure, people have to eat. Sometimes you just do not feel like another bologna sandwich, or you got up late and did not have to pack a lunch, so you stop in at one of these places. I think the main thing, aside from the extensive competition, that makes restaurants fail, is all the food they end up throwing out. You have to buy enough for unexpected crowds, but if they do not show, all that food goes to waste.
